152 Fosamax users show signs of having Ileus, according to study.
A hundred plus Fosamax users are currently suffering from Ileus, commonly known as intestinal obstruction, bowel obstruction, and intestinal volvulus. The reports from FDA and Fosamax user community were used to determine the result of eHealthMe’s study.
eHealthMe further reveals that 30.91% of reported Fosamax users are currently suffering from Ileus . On the other hand, Fosamax users for 6 months and up have the lowest rate of acquiring Ileus.
In the history of Fosamax reports, 2008 has the highest number of Ileus and 1998 has the lowest. Among the affected patients, 88.46% female are affected by Ileus compared to 11.54% males. Patients who commonly suffer Ileus are aged 60 years and above. Ileus is a side effect that should not be taken lightly by those affected ones.
You will know if you have Ileus if you are experiencing these symptoms: moderate, diffuse abdominal discomfort; constipation; abdominal distension; nausea/vomiting, especially after meals; lack of bowel movement and/or flatulence; and excessive belching. Its risk factors are gastrointestinal surgery or other GI procedures; electrolyte imbalance; diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), and other causes of metabolic acidosis; hypothyroidism; medications (e.g. opiates or antimuscarinics); severe illness (Inflammation with peritonitis); and spinal cord injury (SCI), those with injury above thoracic vertebrae 5 (T5) will have hypomotility problems within the bowel.
Fosamax patients who participated in the study are also suffering from one or more of the following: Osteoporosis, Pain, Hypertension, Constipation, and Intentional overdose. Prilosec, Slow-k, Coumadin, Aspirin, and Remicade, are also taken by some of the participants while under Fosamax medication.
