Just having paid a visit to the dentist today, oral hygiene is top of mind for me. First of all, nobody likes going to the dentist (unless you have got a actually cute dentist and even then it isn't fun). The better care you take of your teeth and gums, the less number of visits you will need to make to the dentist, and the less time you will spend once there. But perhaps as significantly, there have been countless studies that show that folks with unhealthy teeth and gums have higher rates of illness and illness.
Why should this be? Well, if we think of it, gum illness means there’s bacteria in mouth twenty-four/seven that is being swallowed and taken thru your bowels and internal organs. This constant flow of bacteria leads to inflammation in the body as it tries to ward off all the germs. And when a body is in a constant state of swelling, it's an invitation for illnesses to come and flourish.
What can be done to keep your mouth healthy?
A consistent and healthy oral cleanliness programme can go a long way to keep your full system healthy. If you follow these steps twice each day, you're going to end up with a good set of choppers:
- Step 1: Brush- this is obvious, but you need to brush 2 times a day for no less than Two MINUTES each time. Too many people get exhausted at night and come to a decision to flop down on their pillows without having brushed their teeth before bed. This is a double whammy, and basically if you were going to select one time to sweep, the evening would be better than the morning. At night when we sleep, our production of spit slows down so that we don’t wake up in a slobering mess. But this reduced quantity of saliva means a dryer mouth. And a dryer mouth means there’s more of a chance for plaque and bacteria to proliferate. So if you don't brush at night, then you have an entire’s day worth of plaque build up on your teeth that is just going to love that dry environment all night long to multiply. And to pack a genuine punch, try utilising an electric toothbrush such as Sonicare. It really gets in there and removes all of the gunky buildup on your teeth.
- Step Two- Dental floss: you've heard it a million times- flossing is good for you. So why are you not doing it? After you get used to dental floss you will wonder how you ever lived without it. Even if you're the best toothbrusher in the world, you simply can’t get between your teeth to get everything out. But dental floss can! There are cool kinds of organic dental dental floss out there- some made of silk and some with cranberry extract coating (manufactured by Radius- www.radiustoothbrush.com). There are also woven and fabric flosses. I like OralB’s Ultrafloss as it’s kind of springy and grabs plaque better than waxed flosses.
- Step 3- Tongue Scrape: this might be a little new to people, but there are devices out there called tongue scrapers which do precisely what they sound like- they scrape your tongue. Employing a tongue scraper packs an one two punch to germs and bacteria in your mouth. It’s very hard to brush all of the way in the back of your tongue because we've got a gag reflex which essentially impedes it. That suggests that all of the bacteria back there cannot be reached by brushing or flossing. But after you become used to a tongue scraper, you'll be able to actually get to the back of your tongue and literally scrape out all of the junk that is hanging out back there. And were you aware that most terrible breath or bad breath is essentially caused by the bacteria on your tongue? That is the reason why people who've got bad breath can’t shed it by brushing. If folks are starting to back away from you when you talk to them, run out and get a tongue scraper and you will soon provide a solution to the problem.
- Step Four- Mouthwash: the final step is by utilising mouthwash. I am keen on it as a finishing step to clean everything down nice and minty clean. There are a large amount of great organic and natural mouthwashes out there. I love the Natural Dentist with sage and PerioWash with cloves.
If you follow these steps twice per day, you're sure to have healthy gums and shiny, clean teeth. Although it may seem like a lot of steps, it can be done in under 5 minutes. And not merely will it give you nice cosmetic results, but it is something that will make a contribution to your overall health. And five minutes of brushing sure is easier than an hour of cardio 🙂 Organic beauty doesn't have to be hard.
