A tinge of blood on the brush or floss, swollen and sore gums, bad breath – these are a few of the symptoms of periodontal disease. The first stage and often times non-destructive is called gingivitis. This condition can be treated if caught at the onset or in the early stages. When left unchecked and untreated, this could lead to more severe dental cases which could lead to loss of teeth.
There are different causes of this oral condition although accumulation of bacteria in the mouth may be the key factor to getting gingivitis. Among other reasons are systemic factors when there is a hormonal change in the body and one becomes prone to the disease.
