If you’re one of the people who rather do teeth whitening treatments at home, then this is good news for you because there are currently a lot of over the counter teeth whitener available in the market. Many prefer and take advantage of less expensive way to whiten teeth by using do it yourself bleaching products. These are readily found in groceries, drugstores, and other retail outlets with prices ranging from $20 to $100, depending on the brand you prefer.
Compared to the services offered by professional dental clinics, store bought teeth whitening products are very low priced. However, these do not offer the same effects and whitening potency as with the bleaching procedure that a dentist does. You need to regularly use these products for at least a month to see the difference of whitening effect.
An example of the over the counter teeth bleaching products are whitening gels. Whitening gels are clear gels with peroxide content of either hydrogen or carbamide peroxide which is applied to the surface of your teeth using a small brush. The maintenance of regular application required usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks, twice a day. These over the counter bleaching gels should only contain a weak amount of bleaching agent.
Another product for teeth whitening that can be done at home is the teeth whitening trays or bleaching trays. These offer the convenience of having the treatment done at home and even while you are sleeping. The dental trays are filled with a small amount of bleaching agent as prescribed in the included instructions and fitted to cover the teeth. Some of these whitening kits allow you to leave the tray fitted to your teeth for at least 30 minutes and others even overnight. Just be careful not to swallow the gel solution if so.
Among the newest teeth whitener products offered are whitening rinses. Similar to other mouthwash products, they refresh the breath and help trim down dental plaque and gum problems. With the teeth whitening variety, they include in the ingredients a specific amount of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to whiten teeth. Some brands claim that you will notice the results in about 12 weeks, however experts say that these may not be as good as other over the counter teeth whitening kits. The reason is this will only be in contact with your teeth for a very few minutes compared to leave on bleaching gels that stays on your teeth for at least 30 minutes.
