Brushing Your Teeth The Right Way

11.05.2011

Brushing your teeth is probably something you take for granted.  You’ve done it thousands of times, so you don’t even think about it anymore.  The problem is: if you’re just „going through the motions,“ you may be missing out on the best possible oral care.

Your mouth is home to hundreds of different types of bacteria.  Many are harmless.  Many others, left unchecked, can multiply quickly and create serious problems.  They may lead to tooth decay, plaque build-up and bad breath, to name only a few.

Bacteria must be removed completely by brushing, or they will continue to multiply.  That’s why you must brush carefully and thoroughly.  If you leave even a few behind, your mouth may quickly become a bacteria manufacturing plant.

Oral care professionals do not all agree on what order to brush teeth in.  Getting into every crack and crevice as scrubbing each tooth, plus gums and tongue, is probably more important than brushing in a particular order.

The majority of your brushing efforts should be spent on those back teeth, the molars, the ones that you chew with.  More bacteria reside here.  These teeth, unfortunately, are the hardest to reach, which is why they like to hide on the molars.

You should also give a lot of attention to your gums.  Bacteria cling to them, leading to plaque build up and gum disease.

Electric toothbrushes, like the 30 Second Smile (find a 30 Second Smile review online for more info), typically do a more thorough job of brushing than manual ones.  They also get the job done faster.  If you use a manual, be sure to spend a few extra minutes when you brush your teeth.

Not all electrics are created equal.  Be sure to read some reviews if you do happen to decide on using an electric toothbrush.  You can find 30 Second Smile reviews and other products reviews on the Web.
