Study Claims Excessive Cause Has Negative Effects On The Bones

Calcium is one of the vital minerals which benefit an individual against osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is described as low bone density, which makes the bone brittle and more prone to fracture. However, too little or too much amount of calcium in the body may have a negative effect on us. The development of osteoporosis is not only caused by too little amount of calcium but also excessive calcium absorption, study says. The excessive calcium offered by dairy products and supplements may influence the osteoclasts to develop prematurely, thus rapid and premature aging of the bone occurs.

The bones

received more than 99 percent of calcium. However, your body needs to balance calcium and magnesium to make new bones. When calcium intake goes beyond the consumption of magnesium, the balance is disturbed and the body is not able to break down and reabsorb calcium to form new bone, the bones may likely become brittle and weak.

A person may only require calcium supplementation when serum calcium levels are low and when diet is not incorporated with calcium-rich foods. Ideally, all daily calcium may come from food but sometimes supplementation is necessary. Patients may supplement with a calcium tablet that may not contain magnesium. For better absorption, a person may need to take a dose of 200-250 mg of magnesium for every 500 mg of calcium.

A definite amount of calcium may be absorbed by the body daily. The recommended daily calcium absorption is about 220 to 375 milligrams daily. Over 1,200 milligrams of calcium daily is ingested by people who take calcium supplements and eating foods high in calcium and are observed to have low bone mass density, especially menopausal women.

Today, the primary medical intervention for osteoporosis is the use of bisphosphonate drugs, such as Fosamax, which is made from chemicals used as industrial cleaning solvent. The bone-building cells called osteoclasts, which break down bad bone, are corrupted and eradicated by this chemical, making room for the new stronger bone cells the osteoblasts put in its place. The quality of the bone is affected when the bad bones gather under the mass of new bones, causing increase in density. The Fosamax injury lawsuit center explains why this prescription drug may not be good to osteoporotic individuals.
