Gum disease happen when there is a plaque build up in your mouth. This usually happens when a person neglects to take brush his or her teeth at least twice a day. Once a person smoke is a habitual smoker his or her body’s ability to fight bad bacteria or infections weakens therefore a smoker is has a highest risk of having gum disease.

Gum disease has three stages the mildest is gingivitis, followed by periodontal. Gingivitis is observed when a patient’s gums are noticeably bloated, red and bleeds when brushing or flossing. The second stage is the periodontal gum disease, the gums are now irritated because of too much bacteria has develop in the patient’s gums. The tissues that support the affected tooth are weaken as a result, the person will most likely have receding gums and worst will have lose the tooth.

Did you know that gum disease does not go by age?

Many people think that this type of gum problem only applies to old people. If you are thinking the same way, then what you are thinking is wrong! Teenagers can also acquire gum diseases especially if they do not take extra care of their teeth and gums.  It can happen to anyone. If you do not pay attention to this problem this may lead to a more serious illness like heart diseases, stroke or diabetes. There are times when gum diseases are symptoms health problems.

Gum disease can be treated either through a non-surgical way or an operation. Once the gum problem has been discovered make sure to have a scheduled visit to a professional dentist. In this way, your dentist can give you recommendation to resolve the issue. Furthermore, your doctor may perform a dental cleaning during your check up.

During its early stage, make sure to brush your teeth regularly. Use soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Investing on both will ensure that you are taking the problem seriously. Moreover, it is important that you know how to brush your teeth properly. You may also use a mouthwash to freshen up your breath and a dental floss for areas that can’t be reach by your toothbrush.
