Oral hygiene is one of the most important ways in keeping oneself healthy. Our teeth, lips and tough are visible to peoples’ eyes when we smile, laugh or even giggle. It draws attention to people that surrounds us. If we are aware of our oral health then family, friends and acquaintances will voluntarily and happily draw near to us. One of the basic oral hygienic practices is to brush our teeth regularly in this way our teeth is cavity free. We release odor free carbon dioxide. It makes us feel more confident in talking or dealing with people. However, there is a difference between gently brushing your teeth and aggressive brushing.

When you gently brush your teeth I will not only keep your teeth clean but also prevent the formation of plaques in your gums.  Aggressive brushing may damage teeth that cause gums to bleed. Tender, bleeding (especially after brushing) and swollen gums are signs of the progression of receding gums.

Receding gums are common to men and women. However, due to hormonal changes in the woman’s body they are more likely to have this gum disease. Every time there a new hormone is release in the body, the hormone levels change from one direction to the other which may lead to a very fragile gums.

Women and receding gums are interrelated during the following incidents: teenage puberty, pregnancy and menopausal period. During the stage of teenage puberty, girls will slowly experience physical or hormonal changes such as hair growth on private parts of the body and the enlargement of breast. While during the stage of pregnancy, a great fluctuation of hormones may happen since the body’s immune system will strengthen its defences against bacteria and viruses. In spite of this the gums are still susceptible to diseases that could bring about gum recession. Finally, the menopausal period is the time where women start losing their monthly period. When this time comes, women get easily irritated and a feeling of discomfort is normally felt. The hormones will vary like the period of pregnancy.

How do we treat gum recession? Receding gums can be treated through visiting your dentist regularly. In this way, the doctor can identify how severe the gums have receded. In addition, you can purchase a soft bristles toothbrush for a gentler brushing paired with toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Make sure to take suitable amount of vitamin C to boost your immune system.
