Parasites are probably the most diverse of all biological forms and yet, by definition, they remain hostile to human beings.
Of the 7.8 billion acres of potential cultivatable land on Earth, only 3.4 billion acres can be farmed; almost all of the rest cannot be developed due to parasites (schistosomiasis, onchocerciasis,malaria and trypanosomiasis). That means over half of the farmable land of our planet is unavailable to us, because of these ‘critters’, at a point in time when humans need food resources like never before. In Africa alone, an area the size of the United States cannot be farmed because of trypanosomes; many millions in South America have never had a healthy day in their lives because of this unholy parasite.
But are parasites a curse of the developing Third World Countries? Not a bit of it…

Frank Nova, CEO of the Laboratory for Parasitic Diseases at the National Institute of Health, states, „In terms of numbers, there are far more parasitic diseases acquired in America than in Africa.“ Even if nations in the Northern hemisphere were somehow protected during the past, all this is coming to an end. With climate change, parasite vectors are now moving north into tropical climates. A version of Trypanosomiasis is now endemic in the „kissing bugs“ found in Arizona and California.
We ALL need to wake up!! You need to know more?a LOT more than you do. Look right here. One of the things I most need to teach Westerners is that parasites are very common in homes. It’s not just a problem for the „Unwashed Masses“ in far distant lands. We have so many of our own! Westerners I’ve found are particular prone to the innocent belief that „they“ don’t have parasites. Yet some areas of the Europe, the USA and Canada are so heavily plagued I might joke about visitors from Asia and South America taking special precautions to protect themselves when visiting these countries!
If you learn nothing else, learn this: we all have parasites in our bodies, permanently or at least occasionally. Those of us with stronger immune defenses have fewer problems, that’s the difference….
You can’t afford to go on sharing half your life and resources with parasites running around, unchecked, inside you. It’s time to start turning the tables! There’s no escaping the problem of parasites today; we are really a global village. We share the Earth’s dangers, wherever we go – even if we stay home!
