Once a Calvin Klein jeans model, Brooke Shield still does have the “IT” factor even at the age of 46. She lives a vibrant life. Born and raised in New York, her mother Teri Shields was her very first manager. Brooke started in show business even before turning one year old as the Ivory Snow Baby all through the efforts of her mother. Controversies always seem to find her. She starred in a film when she was 13 years old playing a 12-year-old prostitute that a painter was fixating. This film has been one of her best and it caused a stir of controversies even if she had a body double for the adult scenes. Even with all the controversies people knew she was not exploited in the film. Brooke has taken Paxil but has never filed any Paxil birth defect lawsuit when she had her baby.
As a teenager she was also tagged as one of the most beautiful teenager and has been in countless fashion shows. She has also been a cover girl for major fashion magazines like Elle, Vogue and Cosmopolitan among others by the age of 16. Her first marriage with Andre Agassi ended through annulment even if she had been one o0f the most in-demand actress. Controversies hounded her when her marriage with Agassi ended. Two daughters has been given to her and second hubby Chris Henchy. Then again it wasn’t that easy because after giving birth to their first daughter, Brooke was weighed down by postpartum depression or PPD. Writing a book about her experiences of postpartum depression was her way of sharing and empowering women. She released the book last 2005 with a title “Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression” and it debuted as no. 6 on the New York Times Best Sellers list. The first that came to their mind was that she was only tired due to lack of sleep and the delivery and never expected it to be PPD.
The struggles that she underwent during that dark time were chronicled in her book. PPD has really affected her and the people around her which made her confident in sharing it to all so that nobody will suffer because of it. She even said that she was not comfortable being with her baby in the house. Understanding PPD was also made possible by the women that she met who also had their own experience with it. She is now an advocate that empowers women who has PPD when she was interviewed about her book “Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression”. She revealed in an interview about her book “Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression” that she is advocating women to not be afraid of admitting PPD. She encourages women who are experiencing PPD to get help and not to feel like they are failures because it is already out of their hands.
